V. 2008Nethypysähtyi Englannissa Oxfordin lähistöllä 37 päivää ja myös 2008 Deshar, jonka matka sitten päättyi onnettomasti pysähtyi Englannissa Kentin alueella 36 päivää.
Näyttää olevan ihan vakio, että jossain vaiheessa matkaa pidetään tankkaustauko.
Kun lopetat kuun tavoittelun taivaalta,putoavat tähdet syliisi.
Tuota samaa juuri olen ajatellut, prinla! Ja kun "oppikirjat" sanovat, että enemmistö nuorista sääksistä oppii kalastamaan - ja saakin vasta ensimmäisen kalansa! - muuttomatkansa aikana, niin jossakinhan tuota taitoa täytyy sitten harjoittaa ja vahvistaa. Ja syödäkin joskus täytyy, vaikka miten hyvin olisivat kotipesällä ruokailleet. Ajattelisi myös, että ensimmäiset pitkät lentomatkat muuton aikana ottavat voimille uudella tavalla..

The latest up-dates on the whereabouts of our tracked birds is as follows:
Tardy Bynack remains where she's been for a while now, but both Tore and Rothes are on the move.
Rothes, having been on the Gironde estuary since late May, has at last called time on her summer vacation and begun to return south, not far as yet, still in France, the latest fix we have for her is just north of the town of Saint-Paul-Les-Dax. She's on the move at least now, so further progress from her later this week, hopefully.
The big news however, relates to Tore! She's in Africa!! From her previous last reported point, she has travelled down through Extremadura, into Portugal on 23the September at 9pm, down through the Algarve to the coast near Faro, before heading out to sea, at night, making landfall on the Moroccan coast at c.7am at Larache. She then kept going, passing Souk-el-Arba-du-Rharb, then west of Meknes, overnighted just south of Tadla, passing Ouarzazate at 2pm on 25th September, her latest fix being near Foum Zguid, just north of the border with Algeria. Phew, that's all quite an epic step for her after her rather slow progress thus far. It's great news that she has the potentially hazardous sea crossings now behind her, but she will not have come across arid, fish-less desert terrain in her life before, until now. That's her next major challenge.

Tore on edennyt 600 km, on nyt Malin rajalla. Bynack on lähtenyt liikkeelle etelää kohden. Rothesin tilanne on epäselvä, hiukan huolestuttavakin; tiedottavat lisää heti kun ovat selvillä paremmin.

Tracking latest is as follows; Tore has continued to head south, having moved on almost a further 400 miles (600km). She crossed into Algeria, passed down, near to Tindouf, then into the right-hand corner of Mauritania, where there is a dog-leg, 3-way border between Algeria, Mauritania and Mali. Her last fix was on the border with Mali.
Bynack is moving at last too now, not so very far, but finally heading off south from where he's been for quite some time. He left that area at 6am yesterday (27th), passed near to Nijon, onwards to near Neuilly and the last fix we have (1pm on 27th) is near Selongey, about 60 miles from whence he set off. No far, but heading in the right direction.
The latest Rothes data is a bit confusing and concerning. We're looking into it and will let you know, what we know, when we do!

Rothesin uskotaan olevan ok, mutta lähetin ei ole tuottanut uutta dataa sen liikkeistä. Tämä voi johtua alhaisesta jännitetasosta paristossa, auringon estyttyä lataamasta sitä.

Please don't fret unduly about Rothes, just yet anyway. We think she is ok, but something might not be quite right with the tag, perhaps something simply like some feathers preventing the sun hitting the solar panel, hence low voltage, hence poor/no data.
Mitään uutta tietoa Rothesista ei ole tullut vielä.
Laitan tähän kartan sen viimeisimmästä tiedossa olevasta sijainnista 25. 9. Tuona päivänä se lentänyt etelää kohden noin 175 km. Viimeinen paikannus on metsäisellä alueella.
Toivottavasti saamme pian hyviä uutisia. Kuinka kauan nuo lähettimet ja muut kestävät, vai latautuvatko auringosta ? Rothes on ollut matkalla jo yli kaksi vuotta, mutta aurinkoa sillä on varmasti ollut riittävästi.
