Good evening, Watchers! It was a pleasure to see Otto again, after three days away from the nest. So many nests, so many different situations. Otto fled the nest at 60 days old. I think we will periodically see the young eagle in the nest until mid-September, when they start their journey to the wintering grounds.
This nest is located in the small eagle sampling area "Murmastiene", the nesting success in the sampling area was very good - 10 successful nests. Since the beginning of research in 1994, there have been 10 or more young birds only in six years (max.=13 successful nests). The success of "Žūklis" in the nearby breeding area was also good - 12 successful nests. Since the beginning of research in 2002, there have been 10 or more young birds in eight years (max.=14 successful nests).
Thank you very much for recording the observations, later in the fall I will collect the information from this year and the previous year and compare it with the article published this year about the food of small eagles in Latvia https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10. ... scroll=top
