Kirjan osto suomalainen.com:ista!
Tilasin kirjan Wesley The Owl suomalainen.com:ista 11. helmikuuta. Toimitusajaksi arveltiin jotain 2 viikkoa ja toimitus piti olla lähimpään R-Kioskiin.
Sain saapumisilmoituksen sähköpostiini to 25.2.2010 10:52 Schenker Cargo Oy:ltä , jossa kerrottiin, että paketti on noudettavissa XXX R-kioskista. Lähdinkin sitten samantien tuota pakettia hakemaan, mutta sitä ei sitten tuolla "Ärrällä" ollutkaan. Myyjä oli tietävinään, että se tuleekin iltapäivällä - jäänyt siis matkalle.
Ihmetytti jo tässä vaiheessa, miten sitten tuo saapumisilmoitus on voitu lähettää.... otin yhteyttä Schenkeriin sähköpostitse... vastaus tuli muutaman tunnin kuluttua:

Valitettavasti lähetys on harhautunut väärälle kioskille. Paketti palautuu meille 2-3 arkipäivän kuluessa. Saatte uuden avisointi tiedon kun paketti on noudettavissa kioskilta.
Pahoittelemme aiheutunutta harmia.
Tämän koommin ei Schenkeristä ole kuulunut mitään.
Olin kyllä sitten jo samana päivänä yhteydessä Suomalainen.com:iin ja pyysin heitäkin selvittämään, miten nykyaikana, jolloin paketit on seurannassa, voi ilmoitus tulla olemattomasta lähetyksestä... Sain suomalainen.com:ista soiton maanantaina 1.3 ja sovimme, että kun pakettia ei ilmeisestikään löydy, niin tilaavat uuden ja toimitus tälläkertaa postin mukana.
Nyt on vierähtänyt jo reilusti 2 viikkoa ja postia odotellessa tätä kirjoittelen... Oliskohan pitänyt tilata jostain muusta verkkokaupasta kuin kotimaisesta
Tuntuu jotenkin, ettei meillä täällä pohjolan perukoilla kohta pelaa mikään,,, pakkasmittarikin jumittunut miinuksen puolelle jo joulukuussa

Onpa harmillista, raivostuttavaakin ja vastuuhenkilöitä on vaikea löytää, auttaisko käynti Vantaalla?
Olen muuten aiemminkin nähnyt tuon koskettavan videon pöllöstä ja hoitajasta. En saanut selvää, missä se pöllö nyt on? Aina jää jotain epävelväksi:(

Ehdottomasti! Kannattaa (ja minusta myös täytyy) marmattaa. 
Kiva että Wesley saapui! 
En vielä tilannut omaani, on niin monia kirjoja jonossa, että ajattelin siirtää Wesleyn eteenpäin. Kiva tietää,että on mukava asia odottamassa. 
Kyllä noissa verkkokirjakaupoissakin löytyy hyvin ja huonosti palvelevia. Ärsyttävintä on, että luvataan sellaista, mistä jo luvattaessa tiedetään, ettei tule toteutumaan. Vähän vastaavanlaisesti kävi minulla vuosi sitten erään b-alkuisen verkkokirjakaupan kanssa - noita b-alkuisia on ainakin kaksi, enkä nyt muista kumpi oli. Taisi mennä puolisen vuotta kirjan tuloon! Lähetin useampia väliviestejä/kyselyitä ja lopuksi melkein uhkasin... sitten kirja tulikin.
jos tuolla kirjalla olisi ollut erityinen kiire, olisin kyllä järjestänyt isomman reklamoinnin asiasta. Se siitä kyllä seurasi, etten enää palannut kirja-asioissa tuonne.
Meni muuten useampi kuukausi saada ne lintukellotkin - mutta aivan toisenlaisesta syystä. Hauskaa oli, että kello kuuden ääni olikin aivan tuttu, kun olin noita Starr Ranchin barn owleleita jo pidempään seurannut!

2 are of local barn owls taken by my friend and he says I can post them on the site, these 2 nest within a few miles of my house, we have good numbers of barn owl here were I live.

Thanks robbo for these lovely pictures! The barn owls are fascinating owls with their big gentle eys and a beutiful colored "feather costume". Have you already been at San Marcos Barn Owl Nest which we have here at the forum too?

Hello Annie
in the UK many of the old barns have either been knocked down or converted to houses.These old barns provided many sites for barn owls to breed and a lot of the old barns were built with entrance holes for barn owls to access the building. The newer barns lack suitable places for the barn owls to breed in, so many have nest boxes erected in theses barns to attract and maintain breeding pairs of owls. In other areas, paricularly areas were many barn owls have traditionally bred in holes in trees (different parts of the uk hold different numbers of barn and tree nesting owls, in my area tree nesting is rare) pole boxes are erected, these have proved very effective in maintaining pairs and attracting new pairs so increasing the overall population. Most barn owls in the UK breed in farmland with some on moorland, a few, very few do breed in towns and in some city areas barn owls breed on disused land, such as old factory sites, old railway yards and even dockland sites and areas were old housing has been cleared, but mostly they are birds of open farmland with either grassland or plenty of ditches and river banks for huntimg. As far as i am aware no one has ever studied the few pairs of city nesting barn owls in the UK and it would be very intresting indeed to compare these birds ecology to the farmland birds.

Hello robbo it was so nice to read your answer. San Marcos's Molly is living by a home backyard and other houses are there near too. McGee, the male owl is sitting in the tree by neighbour's yard and is keeping an eye on the environment... but quite small land space where the box is located in. But Carlos Royal with his wife they had to wait 2 years before Molly and McGee arrived nesting in that box.
It has occured to me, if it would be possible to have an owl nesting near by a house at farmland. I mean if there is a proper owl box. I wonder if there are some differences between the owls thinking how near to a human habitation they are venturing to nest ?

Hi Annie Some barn owls do indeed breed successfully in occupied houses in farmland areas, one pair near me breed in a converted barn, now a house, in which the owl entrance was left up near the roof space. The owls at this site are used to the comings and goings of the family there and usually rear young. Another pair bred for a number of years in the wooden panelling of a large occupied house again successfully rearing young. Of the town pairs both nests I have heard of were in the roof space of occupied shops, the owls foraging well away from the breeding site. The breeding sites of the city pairs in my area, both in really heavy industrial areas were both suspected to have been in old factory sites and a disused dock warehouse.Both these areas have undergone regeneration in the last year or so with no sightings of owls for a few years at one of the sites, and its uncertain wether they still occur at the other, though obviously there are very few people around at night in either area so its possible they still occur

That's interesting to hear, robbo. With old buildings, does it mean not in use any more? Raisa, tuo oli aika hauska vinkki. Yön kulkija pöllö tuli paljastetuksi vierailullaan kotkan pesällä. Kuvahan oli täysin harmaata, yökuva kun oli, ja minun lintukirjanikin vaatimaton, mutta näistä siinä löytyvistä muistutti lähinnä suopöllöä - sen kanta näyttää olevan runsaimmillaan Pohjanmaalla ja Lapissa.
Sanoin tuolla chatin puolella, että olisi viirupöllö. 
Korjaan kuitenkin arvaustani ja totean sen olevan lapinpöllö.

Kyllä se on lapinpöllö. Katsoin wikistä kuvan. Wikissä on tuosta suopöllöstä aivan erilainen kuva, kuin pienessä lintuoppaassani - lapinpöllöhän siinä ei ollut ollenkaan.
