Happy to have you back, Lady. Not so sure the other resident birds are as pleased...

Katselin tätä pesää viimeksi 11.9.17, kun pesän yli pyyhkäisi Irma hurrikaani. Otin silloin tämän kuvan, kun näytti siltä kuin myrsky veisi sen mennessään. Ei näköjään vienyt. Viime talvena tämä amerikanhuuhkajapariskunta ei pesinyt pesällä , koska talven aikana pesän takana oleva puunrunko- ja latva oli katkennut. Pariskunta pesi lähistöllä. Keväällä sääksipariskunta pesi tässä pesässä, mutta se ei muistaakseni päättynyt hyvin. Olisipa mukavaa, jossa huuhkajat palaisivat. Marksaa oletko huomannut, että pesän oikealla puolella on tiiauspaikka? Katselin keväällä ohiajavia golffareita, jotka tiiailivat siinä. Auto näkyy olevan siellä yleinen golfväline!

Hyvä havainto Mimmu, en oo nähny lyöntipaikkaa, mut golfautoja on näkynyt, se on pakollinen, ko ne siirtymiset on niin pitkiä. Naavatillandsia roikkuu puiden oksista.
Menin eilen arkistoon katsomaan niitä Sun kuvia, mutta se pahuksen Photobucket- järjestelmän muutos on ne kaikki poistanut.

During the Fall of 2014, a pair of Great Horned Owls began frequenting this recently abandoned Bald Eagle nest adjacent to a protected, nutrient-rich salt marsh along the Georgia coast. The nest sits nearly 80′ above one of the six Audubon International Certified golf courses at The Landings, on Skidaway Island, near Savannah, Georgia. Over the course of 2015 and 2016, a pair of owls successfully fledged four owlets from the site, but they did not return to breed in 2017.
Instead, a pair of Ospreys began renovating the nest and committed to breeding in the same site for 2017.
Ospreys are consummate fishing birds, and this pair fishes primarily from the nearby salt marsh, ponds, and waterways. They use their 6–7 foot wingspans to soar above the water, looking for fish, then diving as deep as 3 feet for shallow-swimming prey. Adult Ospreys usually weigh 3–4 pounds, and they can carry prey up to 50 percent of their own weight. Ospreys can live up to 25 years, and they typically lay 1–4 eggs in a clutch.

Yesterday afternoon (9/10/2017), Johannesburg was rocked by severe thunderstorms. Strong winds, mini tornadoes, large hail stones and heavy rain caused damage to roofs, cars and roads with loss of life and injuries.
I watched the nest as Lady crouched low staying out of the wind. Thankfully she was not hit but large hailstones. At the back of the house, Pappa hid in the branches of the tree.
As soon as the weather cleared he came to check up on the nest.
