Satellite tracking Loch Garten ospreys 2012 - 2016
Knowing Rothes, Tore and Bynack and How they started their first migration journey.
A Very Happy New Year!
Rothes's data is still coming in intermittently, but she did make a detour to the neighbouring island of Unhocomo on the 27th December. and by way of a coincidence,
Tore left her area for a short visit west of her usual haunt to an area north of Birkama, also on the 27th! ....and
Bynack, well he's decided to visit the seaside over the holidays. He headed west on the 18th December and was still languishing on the coast slighty north-west of Dara on New Years Day.

Voiko tuo olla totta! Voiko 10 päivän perusteella päätellä, että Bynackille on tapahtunut jotain? Ikävää...
Rothes according the last blog / 20 March 2012, the Final Countdown.... / Posted by Julie Quirie
Unfortunately we haven't been able to gather any data from Rothes over the past couple of weeks -
this could be that she is on the move or her transmitter has finally stopped working.
We did lose contact with her when she set off on her migration south last autumn and started receiving
data again shortly before she arrived back on island of Ilha de Unhocomo, so hopefully this is just a blip.
Mike will keep you up-to-date on any further news. Its so frustrating as we desperately want to know
where she ends up back in the UK. So if anyone spots an osprey with a ring white PJ, be sure to let
us know!
On March 3, she was on her favorit Bijagos islands.

Julie Quirie, 20 Mar 2012 :
I will be signing off with the Osprey Tracking for the time being as I'm going back to managing the shop at the Osprey Centre.
Mike Hems, who is one of our Volunteers, has kindly agreed to take over downloading the data, so please be gentle with him.
He has checked this weeks data which shows Tore is still travelling between the Casamance River and Quedanga areas.
She doesn't seem to be able to decide where she would rather be.

Some sad news

I know some of you have been asking for updates about Rothes and Tore. There is no easy way to say this but it appears that Rothes hasn’t made it. Rothes fledged the Loch Garten nest in 2009, and successfully migrated all the way to Guinea-Bissau. She made a part-migration to southern France last summer before returning to Guinea Bissau. We have not been getting a signal from her tracker for the past few weeks, but regained contact on 25th April, from the island she had been on previously. We continued to get daily signals for the following few days, but they have all been from exactly the same place. It is unclear why the signal kicked in for just those few days, but the fact that it has not moved suggests the worst. We think that possibly a predator or the wind has moved her which would have exposed the solar panel on the transmitter for brief periods. Sorry to have to be the bearer of such sad news, as we all had high hopes for the safe return of this bird.
Tore is still going strong and is moving about daily. Further details on all our tracked birds from the past four years can be found on our website at: http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/trackin ... index.aspx

It looks like we've now lost Tore too.
We've been awaiting confirmation, but the latest data downloaded on Tuesday, reveals that Tore’s location has remained the same now for a spell, confirming our concerns that she is missing-in- action and sadly we must assume the worst. As with the other lost birds, it is of course just possible that the tag may have fallen off, but consulting with our techi-chaps at HQ, it does not look good to say the least.
The final location is on what appears to be a muddy bank by a river in Guinea-Bissau, NE of Bissora (a very small village).
