... some subjective picks the text are mine:

We’re still enjoying amazing weather up here. It’s been warm and sunny pretty much every day since I arrived. Apparently it’s not always like this in the Highlands, so I’m making the most of it by exploring the wonderful Abernethy Reserve and surrounding areas.

So as you can probably see from the webcam, EJ and Odin are getting on nicely and enjoying the weather. In stark contrast to the other morning when EJ had a layer of frost on her back, she has been sitting on the nest, panting to cool down. I’m sure she prefers the sunshine.

There’s been plenty of activity on the nest in the past few days. EJ and Odin have had to see off several intruders who got a bit too close to the nest. There have been a couple of other ospreys and even a buzzard sniffing around. At one point yesterday morning, Odin was up in the air for a good few minutes protecting EJ and the eggs. He certainly is a devoted partner and proud father to be...

In blog was told, here have been a lot of intruders - that can perhaps seen also of Odin' and EJ' faces. They are very alert and looks almost angry: Dont even think to come our nest!



Here comes Odin and fish about 17:30 LG time. So nice to see, when Odin gently approaching eggs and manages with care. Now he has been brooding one hour.

It is a beautiful morning here, EJ is brooding and caring the eggs.. waiting for Odin, and a morning fish.

When will the first egg hatch?

I can’t believe there’s only two weeks until the chicks hatch out to become EJ and Odin’s third successive offspring. We are suspecting the first egg might hatch around the 21st or 22nd of May in keeping with last years first arrival on the 21st May.

In Scotland has been a thunderstorm today, it's also forecast in Abernethy for night. Just now the weather however is better, EJ is brooding, she don't look very pleased , no wonder. Hopefully the night would be more better.

Morning at the nest - not sunny, but not rainy either. EJ brooding, maybe waiting a fish too.


EJ returns after having a short round flight.

... and there it comes! EJ flies off to eat breakfast, and Odin.. you know that

It's 05:20Am and Odin is brooding.

EJ broods, takes good care of eggs, arranges some sticks and calls between Odin.

Loch Garten osprey diary

A Merry Christmas to all our readers

I’ll pass you over to Phil this week for news of the Reserve, but before I go, a quick update on our three osprey. Tore and Rothes are, as usual, content in their respective haunts, but Bynack has been on a sleepover again – this time he’s been visiting an area to the east of Dakar, Mbourou and returned the following day to Djoudi National Park. He certainly seems to like his trips away!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for keeping me company these last few months and look forward to what adventures lie ahead in 2012.
